  4. Rhetoric • Rhetorical question - A question asked merely for effect with no answer expected. • The answer may be obvious or immediately provided by the questioner. • Rhetoric – the art of persuasion.

  5. Why Learn it? • Learn to manipulate people effectively. -=OR=- • Get your message across more successfully. (Makes the A grade attainable)

  7. The art of Persuasion: The Three Appeals Pathos – Emotion Logos – Logic Ethos – Credibility

  8. Examples How to know: Ask yourself these questions • Are they tugging at your emotions? Pathos • Are they using facts/logics/statistics?  Logos • Are they proving themselves as a reliable source?Ethos

  9. Poster • Split up into four groups • Group #1: Why your parents should buy you an iPad • Group #2: Why your curfew should be extended past 11 p.m. • Group #3: Why you should be allowed to see a Rated-R movie • Group #4: Why we shouldn’t have math homework tonight
