  2. WINDOW SILLS WHAT WE KNOW: • SHS –A-wing 132 window sills 200 lbs each • Sill fell from 3rd floor window onto sidewalk on October 22, 2012 • On any given day: 1000 people cross building thresholds will increase to 1500 in 2014

  3. TIMELINE • Sill falls evening of town meeting October 22, 2012 • Temporary construction fence installed • Structural engineering study by Gale Associates submitted to town

  4. TIMELINE • Town requests district to apply to MSBA for funding of repair • MSBA rejects funding request August 12,2013 • Town officials consider funding options • Town Meeting November 18, 2013, and election November 21, 2013 • Design, Bid, and Award Contract • Target for completion is July 1, 2014 • School opens September 2, 2014

TIMELINE • Pool Heating System failure January 2013 • Pool Leak throughout power outage from storm Nemo • March 14, 2013 Kleinfelder Engineering report via Massachusetts Interlocal Insurance Association (MIIA) recommends structural assessment • June 14, 2013 Hydrotech Structural Engineering assesses grout and drain test to confirm source of water leak • October 7, 2013 Report from C.A. Crowley Engineering on Pool Mechanical System • Seek funding source October 10…. • Design, Bid, and award contract • Target completion July 1, 2014 • School opensSeptember 2, 2014

  7. POOL STRUCTURAL PROBLEMS • Transition joint = leak • Areas needing repair and grouting

  8. POOL MECHANICALS • Gas vs. Electric = cost savings • Newer system technology = more efficient and fewer repairs

POOL PROGRAM - SCHOOL USE • Physical education for 1300 students and 6 grade levels (7-12) • Design & Engineering classes – grades 7-12 to include submersible robotics and robotics team • High school electives to include Senior-Lifesaving and Water Safety Instructor classes • Competitive Swimming and Diving • Sailing Team – mandatory swim test • Special needs students and Special Olympics • Youth program “Sandwich, Every Child Water-safe, Every Child a Swimmer”
