  2. 7th Grade GEP Concept Based Learning: Students focus on a teacher-chosen CONCEPT for each semester. The reading material emphasizes the concept.

  3. 7th Grade GEP As students READ and FOCUS on a concept, they take what they learn and apply it to other fields of study. CONCEPT:Identity Literature:characters identity Science:identity of plants, chemicals, etc. Social Studies: identity of rulers, class systems, culture, religions, etc.

  4. 7th Grade Gifted GEP 1st Semester Conceptual Lens: IDENTITY 2nd Semester Conceptual Lens: PERSEVERANCE

  5. 7th Grade GRC is a block class • We cover 2 class periods a day • Sometimes we cover 2 subjects a day (reading & writing or reading & grammar or writing & grammar) • The grades for reading, writing, & grammar are combined

  6. How is GRC different from Regular 7th grade ELA? Teaching Strategies: • Focus on literary analysis with emphasis on citing textual evidence • Reading material (both fiction & nonfiction) is above grade level

  7. How is GRC different from Regular Ed. ELA? • Creative hands-on learning • Research using Internet • Creating & writing using Internet/technology tools • Work with a partner or in groups to develop collaborative skills & solve problems • Make oral presentations & act out scenes from plays or from reading

  8. How is GRC different from Regular 7th grade ELA? • Move through grammar skills at a faster pace • Focus on using grammar through reading & writing – not just identifying parts of speech • Concentrate on identifying, using, & applying new vocabulary words from SAT college entrance exams • Writing is more advanced – use of thesis, research, citing sources correctly, using complex sentences

  10. Check your child’s STUDENT AGENDA Is their Homework listed? Where have they been during the day? Email me when you have questions, see changes in your child, or need to give me information about your child that would affect their school work.
