  2. WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE Human activities alter atmospheric composition • Burning fossil fuels (coal, oil, natural gas) • More greenhouse gases trapping heat

  3. EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE • Increased Temperatures • Precipitation Changes • Sea Level Rise • Longer Droughts • Extreme Weather Conditions

President Hogan Signs Pledge for Carbon-Neutral Campus – March 25, 2008 UConn President Mike Hogan signs the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment as DEP Commissioner Gina McCarthy and Vice  Provost Greg Anderson observe. 100+ students, faculty and staff attend PCC signing ceremony at Wilbur Cross North Reading Room 

UConn’s Commitment… • Develop a Climate Action Plan for carbon neutrality by 2050 (due by May 2010) • Create a structure to guide development & implementation • Complete GHG inventory and update annually • Integrate sustainability into curriculum– education, research and outreach • Make progress reports and GHG inventories publicly available
