  4. BIODIVERSITY Science, Research and Monitoring Promoting Global Change Research in Mountain Biosphere Reserves • Global Change and Mountain Regions (GLOCHAMORE) • Nov. 2003 - Oct. 2005 • funded by EC, MRI UNESCO (MAB/IHP) • involves 25 BRs from all world regions

BIODIVERSITY Conservation, Sustainable Use and Management MAB Biosphere Reserves – Laboratories for Sustainable Development MAB Programme Intergovernmental programme aiming at laying scientific basis for the improvement of people-environment relationships. Biosphere reserve concept designed as field tool for interdisciplinary MAB work, focus on three functions:

MAB Biosphere Reserves – Laboratories for Sustainable Development • Place specific establishment of integrated conservation-development relationships using available knowledge (scientific/traditional), information, data and expertise • Research and monitoring to monitor changes in integrated conservation-development relationships and using knowledge and insights into adaptive management practices
