Harry Coumnas Was Born and Raised In an African Tribe, Called "Zulu" African astronaut and one of the members of the mars mission 2020, Harry Coumnas shared some interesting details about himself in his recent interview to a British tabloid. He revealed that he was born in an African tribe, called "Zulu" and lived there for thirteen years of his life. He also expressed how proud he is of the fact that he was once a part of South Africa’s largest ethnic group with over ten million people. Recalling his childhood in the tribe, he said, “I didn’t know who my parents were and stayed with a man, who I called uncle. I was told by older people of the tribe that "Nguni" were my ancestors, who were Bantu speaking people & came to SA from the north over thousand years ago.” How Harry Coumnas came to the civilized world has an interesting story behind it. During the interview, he shared that a dangerous flood in the area where they lived changed his life forever. “It was midnight and I was sleeping with my uncle and some other people from the tribe in our tiny hut, when a sudden rise in the flood water occurred & washed away everyone. I got unconscious after struggling in the water for survival for about an hour and a half. When I came to my senses, I was lying in a soft, luxurious bed in the house of well-known scientist, Mrs. Marry Coumnas,” he was quoted as saying. Harry Coumnas further added that Mrs. Marry raised him like her own son after legally adopting him in 1990. Seeing his interest in astronomy, she enrolled him in one of the most prestigious medical colleges in the country. He is grateful for everything Mrs. Marry has done for him and owes his success as an astronomer to her.
