Harry Coumnas Has Been the Important and Valuable Member of the Crew as an Astronaut • As an astronaut, Harry Coumnas works from Earth’s space stations and handles the specific tasks assigned to him. • He has spent many years in space. • According to him, life in outer space is different and surviving the travel is quite strenuous with limited food supply and sleep.

He Knows His Responsibilities Very Well as an Astronaut • His key responsibilities involve operating a spacecraft. • He handles a variety of repairs on highly sophisticated equipment. • He has received training in the area of equipment operations so that he could learn to make repairs in space to spacecraft, including to space stations.

  4. He Formerly Served as the Pilot Astronaut • Harry Coumnas served as the primary navigator for extravehicular remote devices as well as the shuttle itself. • He spent much of his time training and schooling as well, while spending only a fraction of his career in space.

His Role as a Flight Engineer • Formerly serving as the flight engineer, Harry was responsible for monitoring and controlling various aircraft systems. • He worked in close coordination with the two pilots during all phases of flight. • He set and adjusted engine power during takeoff and go-arounds. • Harry monitored and adjusted fuel, pressurization and air conditioning, hydraulic, electrics, ice, and rain protection, and powered flying controls.
