  3. Traditional and Complementary Medicine There are over one hundred practicesworldwide. Some not widely used. Some not well understood. Some confused with witchcraft.

CANCER DRUGS IN CLINICAL USE/TRIALS FROM PLANTS • Vinblastine/Vincristine :Madagascar - leukaemias, lymphomas and some solid tumours • Etoposide: US, Himalayas – refractory testicular tumours; lung cancer • Paclitaxel/Docetaxel: Europe – ovarian cancer • Topotecan/Irinotecan: China – Ovarian cancer • Omacetaxine/Homoharringtonine: Japan - chronic myeloid leukemia • Flavopiridol: India -cyclin-dependent kinase inhibitor -refractory chronic lymphocytic leukemia • Combretastatins: S. Africa - advanced cancer refractory to standard therapy
