  6. Modernizing the GLOBE! • Singapore lesson • Focus on education • Focus on International Education • Develop a global citizen • Teachers as global educators • Quality of teachers Quality of School

  7. Change • Evil • Costly • Annoying • Hard • Ineffective • People to change, they need a reason for them to change.

  8. Future Schools: Built on CHANGE • Schools need to be built around practices that encourage change. • Change has to be at the core of the school framework. • All the school community needs to expect change not plan when change happens.

  9. Why the Change Platform? • Competition • Ability to be organized • Staff performance and retention • Curriculum enriched with Internationalism • Static vs. Dynamic

  10. Can Leaders make change? • Many schools are so change resistant that is virtually impossible for a heroic leader or leaders to effect significant change. • How about a manager? • Where is the key? Is it the person?

Design is the solution! • Structure is not static • Strategy is not a “Thing” • Accept that people are resistant to change. • Create the mindset • The design should be such that it stimulates change • Organization encourages experimentation, learns about new practices and technologies, monitors the environment, assesses performance , and is committed to continuously improving performance.

  13. As the Future Manager: • What kind of information do you collect, and how do you communicate it? • How do you measure individuals, units, and the school as whole? • Who should be involved in making decisions?

  14. Information – The nervous system! • How is the school doing? • How strong is the school? • What is going on around us and what does it mean? • How the competitors are doing? • How the environment is changing? • Communicate the information: necessary for creating a change capability.

  15. Measurement • Units of measure • Individual, department, grade level… • What to measure? • Predictors of future performance

  16. Decision Making • Everyone needs to know at which levels decisions are being made. • Decisions made at lower levels as much as possible.

  17. The future is ours to create! • Selected educated people can make decisions that will determine the fate of our civilization. • Educated electorate = School managers

  19. Conclusion The best manager for the future school is the person who builds the school on a framework that uses change as its mission and international education as its vision to develop global citizens to create peace for the globe.
