  2. Thinking back to yesterday… SYLLABLES • What are syllables? Short sounds that make up a word. Miss Mc-Donn-ell (4 Syllables)

  3. What is a ….Cinquain? A poem with five non-rhyming lines that contain 22 syllables in a predictable syllable pattern: LINE1 : 2 SYLLABLES LINE 2: 4 SYLLABLES LINE 3: 6 SYLLABLES LINE 4: 8 SYLLABLES LINE 5: 2 SYLLABLES. Can you notice a pattern?

  4. A little different to a HAIKU….. • Each line has a different purpose: • Line 1: 1 word to name the subject. (noun) Line 2: 2 descriptive words. (adjectives) Line 3: 3 action words. (verb)Line 4: 4 words that describe the noun.Line 5: 1 word (synonym – refer to the title).

  5. Now it’s your turn…
