  3. Contracts of Employment • Legally binding document • Care must be taken to ensure they are fair and accord with current employment law • Contains details of employees responsibilities, hours of work etc • In most countries it is illegal to not be given a contract of employment

  4. Different types of workers PERIPHERAL – Temporary, part time, self employed CORE – Full time Permanent

  5. Changing employment patterns • Changes in theemploymentsectors: primary, secondary, tertiarysectors as the country becomes more developed. • E.g. Fewerpeoplework as farmers, more peoplework in factories • Ageingpopulation • Flexible workingstructuresusingfewercorestaff • Flexible workinghours • More part-time staff, consultants and contractors • Needtoretainthevaluablecorestaff • Training onlyforthecorestaff

Flexible working structures • Teleworking and mobile teleworking • Home working • Geographical distance is no longer a problem • Businesses save money on renting office space • Lower rates of absenteeism • Employees don’t waste time travelling to work • Employees have more autonomy • Employees can care for children at home, while working • A Portfolio worker • Works on multiple projects for multiple companies
