Basics Mission: Manage LANL Engineering Standards • LANL Engineering Standards Manual (ESM) • Design criteria/details • LANL Construction Specifications (LCSM) • LANL Drafting Manual(DM) Vision: • Have the best standards in the DOE complex, • Train all LANL users on them, and • Enforce their use

Major Program Improvements in Past Year • ESM (design criteria) Largely Revised • Ch 1-230 (nomenclature), Fire, Arch, Mechanical, Electrical, I&C • Major expansion including nuclear requirements, I&C, new power distribution material • Uniformat organization • Endnotes to capture bases • Issued ASME B31.3 Process Piping Guide/Specs (170 pgs) • Done on contract with SRS • Revised Civil, Mechanical, and Electrical Details

  4. Major Program Improvements, Con’t • Began teaching “Intro to LANL Standards” Course • Separate presentation • Adopted IBC latest rev • Hired a Standards Architect (also does project work) • Began teaching Drafting Manual Course • Issued 15-20 new Specs (many glovebox-related), revised dozens of others

  5. Sect 230 NomenclatureFunction ID listings with bases in Appendices

  6. Remaining in 2003 • Revise Civil, Structural, I&C ESM Chapters • Develop new Nuclear, Radiological, and Hazardous Process Safety Chapter • to fully implement DOE O 420.1A and G 420.1-1 • Revise Electrical and some other specs • Begin Security Chapter (maybe)
