  3. Objectives • Students will review the concept of multiple-meaning words. • Students will determine the meanings of multiple-meaning words using dictionaries and prior knowledge. • Students will write sentences and paragraphs to demonstrate correct use of multiple-meaning words in context.

  4. Anticipatory Set The word is: Bat Give me a sentence that uses the word.

  5. Input What is a multiple-meaning word? Multiple Meaning Words are words that have several meanings depending upon how they are used in a sentence. Ex. 1) The bat flew around the cave. bat – a winged mammal 2) Matt Kemp swung the bat. bat – wooden club used in certain games

  6. Input Two types of multiple meaning words 1) Words that sound alike. They are known as homophones or homonyms. ex) Scale the fish completely before putting it on the scale. Scale – to remove the scales of a fish scale – a tool used to weigh things
