Multiple Meaning Words. Many words have more than one meaning. One type of multiple meaning word, homographs , are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings and may be pronounced differently. Using context clues will help you determine the meaning of words.

  2. Many words have more than one meaning. One type of multiple meaning word, homographs, are words that are spelled the same but have different meanings and may be pronounced differently. Using context clues will help you determine the meaning of words. Remember a dictionary will always have all the meanings of words. Multiple Meanings

  3. Now lets review some examples of multiple meaning words.

  4. Examples 1.The people would wonder about the atmosphere on the moon. 2. The world watched in wonder as the first astronauts walked on the moon.

  5. 1.The man will bow when he enters the room. 2. They viewed the sunset from the bow of the ship.

  6. 3. What is your favorite kind of food? 4. The class was awarded for being kind to one another.

  7. 1. The landing caused some people to spring from their seats and shout for joy. 2. Another mission was announced for the following spring.

  8. Now lets practice choosing the most appropriate meanings of some multiple meaning words.

  9. Directions: Use context clues to determine which of the definitions applies to the underlined word. • The prize will spring out of the box. ( a. leap b. season) • I wonder what the weather will be like tomorrow. (a. amazement b. want to know) • She is very kind to others. ( a. type b. considerate) • Will he bow when he asks her to dance? (a. bend downward b. front of a ship).
