  2. What is SHF SATCOM ? • SHF SATCOM Provides: • High Capacity Connectivity over the Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) and Commercial Wideband (CWB) Satellites. • Primary Fleet Media for: • Defense Switching Network (DSN) access • Video Teleconferencing • Ad hoc Point to Point Services • Defense Information Switching Network (DISN) • Internet Protocol (IP) Services

  3. BANDWIDTH DRIVERS

  4. DSCS BASICS • Defense Satellite Communications System (DSCS) • Constellation of 5 Primary Satellites, Each with 6 • Transponder Channels • Preferred Channels are #1 and #2, each with 40-watts of Power • Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) • Acting for JCS, Manages the Satellite Assets Shared by All Military Departments and Other Government Agencies • Shared Transponders Require Careful Power-Balancing Among SatelliteUsers

  5. CURRENT DSCS CONSTELLATION Footprints derived for 10 degree elevation angle (All Satellites DSCS III)

  6. CURRENT DSCS C4I CAPABILITY • Determined by Number of SHF Configured Platforms, Bandwidth, and Available Power at the Satellite • Typical C4I Throughput per Satellite Footprint = 3.3 Mbps • 576 - 2048 Kbps Fleet Flags • 256 - 1024 Kbps CV/CVN • 96 - 384 Kbps CG/LHA/LHD/DDG

  7. SHF CONOPS • Area Air Defense Commander (AADC) Support • SHF Increases Situational Awareness Capabilities • SHF Enhances AADC’s Contribution to the Joint Theater Air Defense (TAD) Process • Participation in Distributed Collaborative Planning Sessions • Video Teleconferencing (VTC) • Secret Internet Protocol Router Network (SIPRNET) • Video Information Exchange System (VIXS) • Secure Voice Connectivity (STU-III) • DSN Access

  8. AN/WSC-6A(V)9BELOW DECKS RF ELECTRONICS

  9. SHF BASEBAND • Provide SHF-DSCS AN/WSC-6A(V)9 Baseband System for AEGIS CG platforms • The Baseband System is designed and scaled to support current and future requirements • - SIPRNET Access • - NIPRNET Access • - JWICS Video • - VIXS/VTC • - ADNS • - KY-68 (2) • - JWICS Data • - I-DSN (POTS) Capability (14 STU-III, 2 FAX) • Timeplex MiniLink is the primary mux that provides access to the ADMS network for smart nodal routing. Combination of I/O modules will support Data, Voice and Video. • AN/FCC-100(V)9 submux provides synchronous data, both NRZ and conditioned diphase (KY-68), and STU-III/Clear Voice/FAX capabilities. • -Maintain card complement consistent within the SHF fleet • -Provide restorable capabilities
