Learning Objectives Upon completion of this session, you will be able to: • Customize the simulator’s patient description with a photo image. • Insert radiology, media, and lab files into a scenario or profile • Record patient vocal sounds using the Windows Sound Recorder and insert audio files into a scenario or profile. • Record a simulation using the simulator’s webcam and replay the video using the Debrief Viewer.

  3. Customize the simulator’s patient description with a photo image • Description: Patient description may be displayed on the patient monitor at beginning of scenario • Benefit: Learners will more easily relate to the simulated patient when the patient has an identify.

Customize the simulator’s patient description with a photo image Directions: • Open Scenario Editor: GUI > Edit > Start Scenario Editor • While in the Scenario Editor, navigate to the Initial State Frame • Double-left-click on the word Patient. • Select Choose Image. • Browse to desired image file. • Select Image. • Note: Image needs to be in : • *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif, *.tif • Click OK to close Patient Description box. • Save scenario.

  5. Insert radiology, media, and lab files into a scenario • Description: Images and video may be displayed on the patient monitor. • Benefit: Learners may access x-rays, lab values, and video of accident scenes or procedures.

Insert radiology, media, and lab files into a scenario Directions: • Open Scenario Editor: GUI > Edit > Start Scenario Editor. • Open desired scenario. • Left-click Media Files button from Action Buttons. • Left-click desired frame – Media Files dialog box opens. • Left-click Add Media Files button. • Browse to desired image file. • Select Image: • Images = *.jpg, *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif, *.tif • Video =*.avi, *.wmv, *.mpg, *.mpeg • Lab= *.txt - Text files*.pdf - Portable Document Format • Click OK to close Media Files dialog box. • Save scenario.

Add radiology, media, and lab files Directions: • Open GUI • Left-click file • Left-click Import Media Files • Follow Import wizard directions • Select Media Type • Radiology =*.jpg, *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif, *.tif • Media =*.jpg, *.jpeg, *.bmp, *.gif, *.tif • Labs =*.htm, *.html *.txt - Text files • *.pdf - Portable Document Format • Select source location

  8. Record patient vocal sounds using the Windows Sound Recorder • Description: Pre-recorded patient responses may be saved to the Event and Vocal Sound menus. • Benefit: Vocal sounds may be tailored to support patient history and other interaction.

Record patient vocal sounds using the Windows Sound Recorder Directions: • Open Windows Sound Recorder: Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Sound Recorder • Record a vocal sound: Click on red record button to begin recording. Click on stop button to stop recording. • Save vocal sound: Click File then Save – this opens a Save As dialog box. Name file then navigate to the appropriate SimMan or SimBaby vocal sound folder (see next slide).

  11. Insert audio files Directions: • Open GUI • Left-click file • Left-click Import Vocal Files • Follow Import wizard directions • Select source location • OR!

Insert audio files into a scenario Directions: • Open Scenario Editor: GUI > Edit > Start Scenario Editor. • Open desired scenario. • Left-click Vocal Sounds button from Action Buttons. • Left-click desired frame – Vocal Sounds dialog box opens. • Select desired vocal sound (one sound per Frame). • Click OK to close Vocal Sounds dialog box. • Save scenario.

  14. Record a simulation using the simulator’s webcam • Description: Record video and audio from simulation for future playback. • Benefit: Simulation video may supplement the debriefing process.

Record a simulation using the simulator’s webcam Directions: • With Simulator software closed, double-left click on the Logitech icon – this will open the QuickCam • Make sure webcam is plugged into laptop. • Left-click on the QuickCapture icon • View the camera’s image and adjust camera as necessary • Close the QuickCapture software. • Open Simulator software.

Debriefing • To begin the debriefing • Select debriefing button bottom left • Yes to debrief • Options are to debrief at bedside or • Save the Debrief file and move to an alternative setting • Print the Debief • Add Comments to debrief prior to printing • Right click on the time • Add your comment • Options to select correct or wrong step
