  2. Scatter Plots • A scatter plot is a graph of ordered pairs of data values that is used to determine if a relationship exists between the two variables.

  4. Analyzing Scatter Plots • A positive linear relationship exists when the points fall approximately in an ascending line. Both x and y values are increasing. • A negative linear relationship exists when points fall approximately in a descending line. As x values increase, y values decrease. • A nonlinear relationship exists when points fall in a curve • No relationship exists when there is no discernable pattern of the points

  5. Create a Scatter Plot: A researcher is interested in determining if there is a relationship between the number of accidents and the number of fatalities when the roads are wet. The data below is f a 10 year period. Draw a scatter plot for the data and comment on the nature of the relationship.
