BYOD Windows 8.1 Enhancements • Access company data from personal devices: • Consumerization of IT • BYOD • Devices that cannot or may not be domain-joined • IT department has some control over the device: • Which company websites and apps can be accessed • Device is represented in AD DS • Device is an additional user authentication factor: • User can access resources only from known devices • User is associated with Workplace Joined device • Multiple users can Workplace Join the same device www.NetComLearning.com

BYOD Windows 8.1 Enhancements • Infrastructure must be set up for Workplace Join: • Domain environment • PKI is critical: • Devices must trust the CA • Devices must be able to access CDP and AIA • AD FS server: • Trusted certificate configured with required attributes • Device Registration Service • DNS record for host named Enterpriseregistration • Web Application Proxy for external devices • Supported operating system on the device: • Windows 8.1, Windows RT 8.1, and iOS www.NetComLearning.com

BYOD Windows 8.1 Enhancements • Allow users to access their individual data: • Users can access only their own Work Folders • Data is stored centrally on traditional file servers: • File servers must be running Windows Server 2012 R2 • Users can use multiple and various devices for access: • Regardless if devices are domain-joined or not • From any location with the connectivity: • Local copy is available without network connectivity • While remaining in compliance with company policy: • Access control, quotas, file screening, classification, and more • Local data copy can be encrypted and wiped remotely www.NetComLearning.com

BYOD Windows 8.1 Enhancements • Both features targeted for non-domain devices: • Domain-joined devices also use Work Folders • Device must trust a CA to use Work Folders: • Workplace Join-enabled devices already trust a CA • Work Folders work with Workplace Join-enabled devices: • In addition to workgroup or domain devices Work Folders Devices Enabled with Workplace Join Domain-joined www.NetComLearning.com

Mobility Windows 8.1 Enhancements VPN Reconnect: • Provides seamless and consistent VPN connectivity • Uses IKEv2 • Automatically reconnects VPN after being temporarily disconnected VPN Auto-triggering: • Enables VPN to connect when: • A network resource with a specific DNS name is requested • An application is run that requires access to an internal organizational network • Can be configured by using Windows PowerShell cmdlets www.NetComLearning.com
