Opinion of the App • I found this app by typing in fitness to the app search on my Iphone • Pros: user friendly, easy to access videos of unfamiliar exercise moves, can set own music from library, makes fast workouts more accessible • Cons: I really enjoy this app, so it is difficult to identify a con. The app performs as it should.

Linda DePotoMay 30, 2012 • A friend told me her family lost a lot of weight with it • How it works: • After creating a profile, you choose how quickly you want to lose weight (1/2 to 2 lbs per week), and Lose It! calculates your calories per day • You enter your food and exercise as you go throughout the day, and Lose It! adjusts how many calories you have “left” for the day each time you make an entry • What makes it interesting: • It is incredibly simple yet it works! As long as you are disciplined enough to enter all the data, the app will tell you in black and white how to change your behavior (i.e., how much you should eat) for the rest of the day • You can link it up to your friends to create a social support network.

Is the weight loss achieved through this app sustainable? • Key Take-Aways: • It can be a nuisance to maintain a food/exercise log, but it’s a general recommendation for people who are trying to lose weight. Lose It! makes it easy because it’s on the phone, and it also automatically fills in the calorie info.

What does this app do? • This app records everything and anything you eat and drink and calculates how much water you have absorbed • Built in “hydration alerts” let you know if you need more water. • The “Mellow Yellow” chart allows you to compare your urine color to the corresponding state of hydration on your phone • The more hydrated you are the more “light” in color your urine will be. At the end of each day, your last urine color will be recorded into your personal log.

Once added, refills can be automatically updated by a simple touch of a button. Inventory tracking follows and logs the time and dose taken and presents it in an easy to read timeline.   32. My Review of Med Helper I was looking for apps to help patients improve and document medication adherence. I searched google for reviews of apps that help with medication adherence, as well as the iTunes and Google Play stores using a keyword search. There are many medication apps available, but most just focus on providing drug information, serve as a personal medication record, or simply provide reminders. I wanted to find an app that could serve as a tool to help patients not only remember to take their medications, but also collect data on current and historical medication use for research purposes.

  33. My Review of Med Helper What makes the app unique, is that in addition to alarms and reminders, the app offers the following functions: 1. Able to track inventory to prevent running out of medication 2. Creates a log of past doses taken 3. Multiple profiles for family healthcare coordination 4. Flexible scheduling and customization of current regimen • Shows a list of color coded doses for the current day grouped by scheduled time. Take as needed doses are colored light blue. The times in small font are when you set a dose status in the following categories: • Orange: Overdue doses that haven’t been marked as taken or skipped. • Yellow: Times with both taken and untaken meds. • Green: For doses that have been marked as taken or skipped. • White: Doses in the future yet to be taken. Allowing you to take meds before the reminder goes off. 5. Exportable reports to share information with providers, caregivers and family members via email and downloaded as an html or Microsoft Excel 2000 file. Perhaps the most helpful feature from a clinician/researcher perspective.

  42. Many users assumed this would be a quality app because of the visibility and credible reputation of Mayo Clinic. The majority of user reviews express disappointment in the quality of the app, with some even stating that the sounds heightened their anxiety. However, a few reviewers did attest to have benefitted from the app. Rating: 3/5 stars Personal assessment: This was the second app to appear in my search for “healthy alternatives.” I had been searching for an app about healthy cooking with substitutes. The brand equity of Mayo Clinic seems to drive most of the downloads, and justify the cost of $2.99 After reading the reviews, my perceived benefits of the app did not outweigh the cost. Therefore, I have not tried it personally. I think more efforts should be made all-around to promote complementary medicine options. The presence of this app in the store by a respected brand may help bring about some awareness about the importance of mental health, even if the app still needs a lot of work to be successful. It is difficult to measure and evaluate the app with soft data involving how tranquil someone feels after using it. I like the audio-visual approach. The “healing thoughts” may be useful for some as well. With some innovation in design and development, this type of app could be very useful to many people in improving their quality of life. Or could the 14,000+ people who rated it be wrong?
