NSSES --- first cohort of graduates in 2012 Learning for Life, Learning through Life: ……to develop ALL students into balanced individuals who can contribute in meaningful ways to society, and who can draw on their own resources to continue to learn, apply their strengths and address their weaknesses. NSSES --- Opportunities and Challenges • More S6 (SS3) students SS3 will be the year that students prepare themselves for the HKDSE examination • One public examination (HKDSE) More continuous assessment, including TSA, SBA, SS Student Learning Profile, etc. • 4-year undergraduate degree programme A change of programme structure and programme emphasis in local universities? • Further expansion of sub-degree programme Qualification framework? The trend of demographic changes?

  5. NSSES --- curriculum framework 4 + 2/3X: • Core Subjects 45-55% • 2 or 3 elective subjects (to be chosen out of 20, including COS) 20-30% • Other learning experiences (moral & civic education, community service, aesthetic & physical activities, CRE) 15-35%

  6. NSSES --- Liberal Studies • Self & Personal Development 2 + 2/4 • Society & Culture 4 + 2/4 • Sci, Tech & the Environment 3 + 2/4 • Independent Enquiry Study A study on an student’s own choice

NSSES --- career-oriented studies Career-oriented studies provide courses alongside school subjects and learning experiences in the senior secondary curriculum……The courses of study will be quality assured by an accreditation agency external to the school, and the qualifications that result from them will be recognized as part of the Qualification Framework. NSSES --- OLE & student learning profile • The profile will operate like a folder, into which the formal certification received from the HKEAA and other awarding bodies can be inserted. • A standard format for the profile will be produced. • The profile might include: internal results by subject; public exam results; achievements and awards; community service; sporting and cultural activities; personal qualities..

NSSES --- assessments • A new credential: the HKDSE to replace existing credentials starting from 2012 • Standards-referenced assessment: bench marking the attainment levels • Broadening the assessment base (SBA) through: research project; product/model; folio of pieces of work; practical activity or experiment;worked problem or application; listening and/or speaking activity; performance……
