  5. Great Oaks Requirements Students attending one of the Great Oaks Career Campuses must meet the Forest Hills School District graduation requirements and pass the OGT to graduate. Great Oaks students should earn the following credits prior to the 11th grade: 2 units in English 2 units in mathematics 2 units in science 2 units in social studies 1 unit in PE/health If a student wants to take a foreign language, this should also be done prior to 11th grade. Students who are deficient in these required areas should make up the deficiency in an approved summer school, night school, or correspondence program.

  6. Grade Level Placement The following minimum number of credits are used in determining the grade level of each student: Sophomore status: 5 ½ credits Junior status: 11 credits Senior status: 16 credits

  7. College Preparatory Course of Study Students who plan on attending a four-year college or university should complete an Algebra II class, two years of foreign language, and one elective in the fine arts. These courses must be taken if the student is to be unconditionally accepted by a state university in Ohio. Students who do not take these courses may be accepted on the condition that the deficient work be made up in college.

  9. Levels in Academic Classes Advanced Placement (AP): Advanced level courses are taught on the college level. Students in AP classes will be expected to take the Advanced Placement Examination in May. Honors (H): Advanced level courses in which topics are studied in greater depth and at a faster pace than at other levels. Content may be equivalent to college-level work. College Preparatory (CP): College preparatory level courses are designed for the student wishing to acquire a strong background for college entrance. General (G): Academic courses that provide on-grade level instruction aligned with the Ohio Academic Content Standards. Non-leveled (N)

Additional Educational Options in the FHSD • Advanced Placement Courses • Mentioned in previous slide • Many AP courses offered • Credit Flexibility • Student-directed, self-designed program • Can be a current Forest Hills course or a custom designed course • Uses the independent study model supervised by a mentor • Can be taken outside the regular school day • Can be an online course, mentoring experience, or other unique model • To apply, student makes an appointment with counselor and completes application and following guidelines found on Forest Hills website

High School Credit for Courses Taken in 7th or 8th Grade All students who successfully complete a foreign language course, Algebra I, or Geometry during the seventh or eighth grade will receive one graded unit of high school credit in each course. The grade and the unit of credit will be included on the high school transcript and will be averaged into the grade point average.

  15. Athletic Eligibility • In order to be eligible to participate in athletics in grades 9-12, a student must: • Be currently enrolled and must have been enrolled in school the immediately preceding grading period • Have received, during the preceding quarter, passing grades in a minimum of five one-credit courses or the equivalent which count toward graduation • Have attained, during the preceding quarter, a C- average or above. • FALL SPORTS ELIGIBILITY: Eligibility to participate in fall sports is determined by grades earned in the 4th quarter of the preceding school year.

  18. Due Dates for Scheduling 2/15/13: Distribution of scheduling materials 2/22/13: Teacher Recommendation/Approval Day: Students carry forms to classes for teachers to sign. Students return a copy of the form to homeroom teachers at the end of the day and receive online course selection instructions. 2/23/13:Students begin entering course selections online. 3/4/13: Final day to enter courses online. 3/8/13: Extended homeroom: Students receive Course Verification Forms to check and return any errors to the Guidance Office.
