  11. Feedback from Beijing Sustainable Cities Session 10 Nov 2010 (Stephen Ellison) • Clearly a demand in China for know-how and technology; policy is there/will be there to drive low carbon; • Growing recognition that effective measures are not rocket science but need to be appropriate; • UK has plenty of expertise • Success stories such as the Sustainable Cities MoU in Wuhan which has 23 projects underway; • But…frustration on both sides; masterplanning from UK firms is very conceptual, low-carbon features are diluted or ignored as the scheme goes to implementation by others. • And at detailed levels UK companies involved in only very small parts of the whole. • So a call from UK for a more consolidated and broader approach. UK firms to work together on more aspects of a single project, with the promoters to ensure that the project objectives including  low carbon at met. • That will need cooperation between UK firms and a willing recipient in China.

  12. Key Aims for the Day • UK Capabilities SWOT Review • Opportunities • Strategies • Implementation Planning • ActionWhat’s our 5 year plan?
