  2. Obesity • Obesity is a condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to such an extent that health may be negatively affected • cardiovascular diseases, diabetes mellityus type 2, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of cancer, and osteoarthritis • reduced life expectancy

  3. Obesity in Norway • Obesity is the second most common cause of premature death • BMI: • >25 = overweight • >30 = obese • >40 = morbidly obese • Increasing numbers in Norway: • 1 in 5 is overweight • 1 in 50 is morbidly obese

  5. Causes of obesity • Diet • Sedentary lifestyle • Genetics • Medical and psychiatric illness • Smoking
