  3. What caused earthquake... • The fault that goes through Haiti has two boundaries known as the Caribbean and the North American plate, these plates rubbed against each other about 0.8 inches every year creating an earthquake in 2010.

  4. How much damage cased… • 13.2 billion dollars of damage (according to a study done by the Inter-American Development Bank) • 200,000 to 250,000 people died • More than 1 million people whose homes were destroyed are now living in the streets.

  6. Could this disaster happen again? • Past seismic activity cant be used to predict future earthquakes, but the findings may help residents and those hoping to rebuild.

  7. Strategies to Reduce this natural disaster: • Install adequate warning systems • Have a unified plan of action • Provide information before the earthquake strikes • Provide rapid and efficient support services after an earthquake • Making earthquake proof movies

  8. Some warning signs that this could occur again: • No activity in 50 years • Evidence that faults are rubbing up against each other.

  9. How is Earthquake Haiti Monitored? • We can monitor this earthquake by studying the movement of seismic plates.

  10. Emergency practice plans: • Have a place to hide, preferably under a door frame. • Be prepared • Build more stable buildings
