  1. Haiti Earthquake Response

  2. Before the January 12 earthquake, Haiti was already the poorest country in the Western hemisphere…

  3. 72% of the population lived on less than $2 a day,

  4. Only 52% of adults could read, Less than 2% of children finished high school,

  5. And 60% of people in rural areas lacked access to basic health care.

  6. CRWRC was there - Working alongside the Haitian people since 1975.

  7. Together with Haitian churches CRWRC provided literacy classes,

  8. Programs to improve agriculture,

  9. Initiatives to improve mother and child health,

  10. Training and support for small businesses,

  11. And hope for a better future.

  13. The loss of human life, the destruction of homes, and the suffering of people are incomprehensible.

  14. But people have not lost hope.

  17. CRWRC is still walking alongside them:

  18. Distributing emergency food & water,

  19. Handing out tarps to provide temporary shelter,

  21. And this is just the beginning. The needs of earthquake survivors will continue for many years Photo by Paul Jeffrey/ACT Alliance

  22. CRWRC has identified 6 villages in the Leogane area in which to focus our long-term efforts.

  23. CRWRC will be there to rebuild homes (Some of the homes constructed by CRWRC following the 2004 tsunami in South Asia).
