  1. OneSAF User’s Conference 30 March 2009 RIB 45a: C2 Enhancements for Virtual Support

  2. C2 Use Cases, 2.0 to 4.0 • Message Addressing • AFAPD Radio Networks • Human Control of C2 • C2 Acknowledgments • Message Processing 45a Topics

  3. OneSAF 2.0 C2 Use Cases C2 Adapter Models Tactical VMF SORD Tactical Bridge DIS Adapter MCT (Reports Dialog)

  4. Tactical VMF OneSAF 3.0 C2 Use Cases C2 Adapter Models SORD Tactical Bridge CCTT VMF DIS Adapter MCT (Reports Dialog) DIS AVCATT VMF

  5. Tactical VMF OneSAF 4.0 C2 Use Cases C2 Adapter Models SORD Tactical Bridge CCTT VMF DIS Adapter Message Center DIS AVCATT VMF AVCATT AFAPD

  6. External Addressing • Recipient address need not be “tied” to a OneSAF entity • Enables/facilitates communications with virtual and live systems • Supports multiple tactical protocols and baselines during same exercise • Complete framework for creation of new network media • A “medium” partitions comms traffic and constrains reception of messages • In addition to digital/tactical comms, framework will enable future development of media such as cell phones, newspaper routes, etc. • Supports unique addressing schemes including • URNs for VMF • Subscriber IDs for AFAPD • Multicast groups • Default OneSAF address Message Addressing

  7. Explicit representation of publication and subscription rules • A Publication Rule specifies • Recipient addresses by message type (including multicast) • Interop adapter to use; e.g., tactical (via C2 Adapter), DIS, HLA, etc. • A Subscription Rule specifies • Recipient address (including multicast) • Rules can be saved/loaded in scenario file • Rules can be created/modified/deleted after STARTEX Message Addressing (2)

  8. Set device address Message Addressing (3)

  9. Setting Publication Rules Message Addressing (4)

  10. Setting Subscription Rules Message Addressing (5)

  11. Add attributes to radios representing device configuration • Frequency • Channel mode • Baud Rate • Etc. • Define attributes for AFAPD and VMF-style radios • Enforce compatibility of transmitter/receiver radio configurations on message reception • DIS Support for attribution • Support multiple radios per entity Radio Networks

  12. Setting Radio Attributes Radio Networks (2)

  13. Human Control of C2 • Message Center • Replaces the reports dialog • Allows message viewing and creation • Filtering Rules allow operator to allow/disallow reception of messages • Follows workstation assignment paradigm • Supports C2 Acknowledgement messages • Tracks acknowledgments received • User can create an Operator Reply to received messages • User can request an Operator Reply to outbound messages • GUI Control of outbound position report frequency

  14. Message CenterViewing Messages

  15. Message Center (2)Creating Messages

  16. Message Center (4)Filtering Messages

  17. SA Parameters • Setting Thresholds on outbound position reports

  18. Acknowledgements • Communications Device Models support automated • Machine Ack • Operator Ack • Operator Reply • Operator Reply may optionally be deferred to human operator using the Message Center • Global setting turns all acknowledgements on/off

  19. SA Overlays • Processing for inbound • K05.01 Position Report • K05.19 Entity Data Messages • Create SA Overlay using 2525B Control Measures for display on PVD • SA Overlay is scoped by Unit URN • Supports aging and removal of SA information

  20. Message Processing Models • AFAPD Processing Model • Enables SAF support of AVCATT Longbow training • Coordinates fire missions with Longbow-specific weapon processing models • VMF Processing updates • Periodic reporting • “Rollup” represented • Messages supported • K02.11 Ammunition Inventory • K02.18 Fire Unit Status • K02.46 Rocket/Missile Status • K05.14 Situation Report • K07.03 Logistics Report • K07.04 Personnel Status Report

  21. Message Processing Models (2) • Updates to CFF thread • Adding K02.37 Observer Readiness Report • Battle Damage Assessment • Send K03.02 at end of aircraft attack behaviors • Recon messages • Updates to Air and Ground Recon behaviors • Send • K04.02 Land Route Report • K04.03 Obstacle Report • K04.09 Bridge Report
