  2. Who Was Lot? • Lot was Abrams nephew. Abram brother, Haran’s son.

  3. Background History. • Lot and his father Haran were born and raised in “Ur of the Chaldees",[Genesis 11:28,31] in the region of Sumeria on the Euphrates River of lower Mesopotamia, roughly four thousand years ago. Genesis 11-26-32 gives the "generations of Terah", Lot's grandfather, who arranged for their large family to set a course for Canaan where they could re-establish a new home. Among the family members that Lot travelled with was his uncle Abram. Lot Born Here

  4. Settlement in Haran • On the way to Canaan, the family stopped in the Paddan Aram region, a very fertile stretch of land.They settled at the site called Haran where Lot’s grandfather, Terah, lived the rest of his days. He was 205 years old when he died. (Genesis 11:32)

  5. Journey to Canaan • Genesis 12 reveals Abram's obedience to the Lord at the age of 75, in continuing his journey to the land of promise. Though Abram’s father, Terah, stayed behind, his nephew Lot went with him. They went south westward into the land of Canaan, to the place of Sichem, the present day West Bank Later they travelled south to the hills between Bethl and Hai, before journeying further toward the South of Canaan.

  6. Journey into Egypt • After dwelling in the land of Canaan for a little while, there was a famine, and they journeyed further south into Egypt. After having dwelt in Egypt for some time, they acquired vast amounts of wealth, including silver, gold and livestock, and returned to the Bethel area.

Lot Living in Sodom • Lot found himself living in Sodom, a city famous for immorality and “grave sins” (Genesis 18:20) • As a result of Lots choice of land he dwelt in a city that did not suit his morals or love for God. • What was the result of Lot Living in Sodom? • Read Genesis 19:14, 16, 24 and 26.

Lot is Captured in Sodom • Read Genesis 14 • Although Lot had put himself first, how did Abram react when he heard that his nephew was captured? • The odds were stacked against Abram (with only 318 men) How do you think he achieved this great victory?
