What Is Narrative Writing? • Stories about events in people’s lives. • Stories that focus on one well-defined experience. • Stories that begin with an image or idea that makes the reader want to know more. • Stories that are full of sensory details. • Stories that have a clear order of events occurred.

  3. Sensory Details • SENSEDetails • Sight bright, green, dark • Sound loud, buzzing • Touch cold, rough • Smell lemony, smoky • Taste sour, sweet, bitter

  4. SENSORY DETAILS SENSORY DETAIL OR DESCRIPTIVE DETAILS ARE WORDS OR IMAGES THAT MAKE YOUR READER SEE, HEAR, AND FEEL WHAT IS HAPPENING.

  5. What Must My Narrative Have? • A BEGINNING • A MIDDLE • AN END

  6. THE BEGINNING • GRAB THE READERS ATTENTION. • TELL WHO WAS INVOVLED. • TELL WHAT HAPPENED. • MAKE IT INTERESTING.

  7. THE MIDDLE • DESCRIBE THE EVENT USING SENSORY DETAILS. • USE TRANSITIONAL WORDS TO SHOW THE PROGRESS OF THE EVENT. • FOCUS IN ON THE IMPORTANT THINGS THAT CAUSED EACH PART TO HAPPENED.

  8. THE END • TELL THE OUTCOME OR THE RESULT OF THE EVENT. • SUM-UP THE FEELINGS ABOUT THE EXPERIENCE OR EVENT.

Power Words • Power Words are precise vocabulary for writing. • When writing in any of the four modes of writing, replace boring, flat vocabulary words with exciting andprecise words. • Excited Brawny • Thrilled Beefy • Energized Gutsy • Daring Burly • Strike fear into Scrappy • Petrified Wishy-washy
