  2. Introduction Kristi Alley Blue Springs Elementary School 4832 Blue Springs Rd. Cleveland TN, 37311 Dear Parents, I am excited about the new school year that is upon us. I am dedicated to assuring your child has an educational and fun filled experience in second grade. In partnership with you, the family, we can work together to build a strong foundation for your child’s journey through school. Hopefully, the following information will answer many of the questions you have about the procedures in our classroom. Please feel free to call the school or email me if you are unsure about anything. I will return your call as soon as I have a free moment.   3. Behavior Rules • Keep your hand, feet, and objects to yourself. • Follow directions the first time given. • Use appropriate language. • Show respect to others, the property of others, and school property. • Walk, don’t run in the school building. • No one will prevent the teacher from teaching and other students from learning. • I will have a behavior pocket for each student. The pocket will contain four colored card (green, yellow, red, and black). Each time a student breaks a rule he/she will have to pull a card out of the pocket. • Green Card- Excellent behavior • Yellow Card- Loses 5 minutes off of recess (can be changed back to green if behavior improves). • Red Card- Loses 10 minutes off of recess. • Black Card- Students will be sent to the office, loses ALL recess, and parents may be called.

  4. Take Home Folders • Your child has been given a Teacher…Parents Communicator folder. This folder NEEDS to come to school with them every day. • One side of the folder is labeled “KEEP AT HOME”. Any items placed on this side of the folder need to be taken out and kept at home. Things like daily work, graded papers, and school information sheets will be placed on this side. • The other side of the folder is labeled “RETURN TO SCHOOL”. Any items on this side are things that need to be completed and returned to school. Things like homework, school forms, and permission slips will be placed on this side. • Each Friday your child’s “Weekly Assignment” for the following week will be in the front cover. This will let you know what is due on each day the following week. On the back side will be your child’s spelling words for the next week. • PLEASE, check your child’s folder every night!

  5. Spelling Words • We are sending this letter to explain our spelling procedure. On Fridays, we will have the basic word and dictation sentence test. • Friday: I will call out the words one at a time and the students will write them down on paper. • (Dictation sentences) Sentences will be read and the students will write them down on paper. Dictation sentences will be sent home on Friday. In the fall, we will send home 3 sentences to study. However, they will only be tested on 2 of the sentences. In the spring, we will send home 5 sentences to study. However, they will only be tested on 3 of the sentences. • We encourage your child to study for the tests. Please see that he/she does NOT wait until the night before the test to study.

  6. School Supplies • *Please write your child’s name on all supplies* • The following supplies are needed: • 1. $30.00 school fees • 2. Two dozen #2 pencils (pre-sharpened if possible) • 3. Zipped pencil pouch (instead of pencil box) • 4. Two boxes of crayons (No more than 16 or 24) • 5. Regular rule loose leaf notebook paper (please no college rule) • 6. Second Grade tablet paper (Please purchase at school for $1.75) • 7. Scissors and Elmer’s Glue • 8. One plastic folder with three metal prongs • 9. One plastic folder with pockets • 10. One large box of Kleenex • 11. 70 Sheet spiral notebook • 12. Clorox wipes • 13. NO TRAPPER KEEPERS PLEASE! • 14. NO BACKPACKS WITH WHEELS!

  8. Arrival at School • Please do not drop students off before 7:00 a.m. There is no supervision provided before this time. • 7:00 am Main building is open/Supervision is provided . Students are escorted to the cafeteria Breakfast is served • 7:30 am Breakfast line closes • 7:35 am Students are picked up by their classroom teacher • 7:45 am School begins • 7:50 am Students are marked tardy • 2:25 pm Big City University dismissed • 2:40 pm Bus riders dismissed • 2:45 pm Car riders dismissed • 3:00 pm All students must be picked up by 3:00 unless they are remaining on campus for a scheduled, supervised activity. • Traffic Flow: In the mornings all students should be dropped off for school at the north end of the building under the awning. This is the awning that is across from the portable where we have music classes. There will be a teacher or a member of our Blue Springs Safety Patrol on duty to assist students to the cafeteria. • Please do not drop off students before 7:00 am as their will not be supervision. • Please do not drop students off in the lower drive or at the portable learning cottages before 7:45. There is no supervision in these areas during the mornings. • Afternoon pickup will again be in the lower drive. Please be courteous to those waiting in line. Utilize the ball park wrap around to wait for your turn to move forward. Thank you for your consideration in this. • Buses will drop off and pick up at the North Awning.

  9. Medication Procedures • All Medication brought to school has to have a medication form filled out. • All medication has to be in the original container • All medication has to be brought to the office by an adult • DO NOT SEND MEDICATION IN YOUR CHILD’S BACKPACK.

  10. Sending Money To School • Money should always be placed in an envelope with the child’s first and last name on it. • Please write what the money is for and the amount enclosed.

  11. School Celebrations • Birthdays: Students may bring snacks to school on their birthday. • Behavior Reward Party: We will celebrate “Great Behavior” on the last Friday of the six weeks grading period. Students may bring snacks and rated “G” movies. The class will vote on which movie they want to watch. • Holidays: We will have both a Christmas and Valentine’s Day party this year. I may send you a note to send party items a few days prior to the holiday. • Please make sure that students do not bring toys to school.

  12. Communicating with the School • My main method of communication is through your child’s “Take Home Folder”. • Please make sure you check your child’s folder daily. • On occasions, I may need to call you during the school day. Please make sure you let me know if any of your contact numbers change. • If you need to contact me during the school day, you may leave me a message with the office. I will return your call as soon as possible.

  13. Parent Conferences • Parent Conferences are held in October. If you would like to set up a conference for another time during the year, please feel free to let me know.

  14. Afternoon Pick-up • Please make your child’s afternoon pick-up routine as consistent as possible. • If your child is being picked up in a different way, please send a note. • Please DO NOT instruct your child to “Tell Me” or have an older sibling “Tell Me” there pick-up is different than normal.
