  2. Congenital, idiopathic birth defect • Affects bones, joints, muscles, and blood vessels • Prevalence • ~1 in 1,000 births in the US • 5-7 times great in underdeveloped countries (Uganda, Honduras) • Foot position is pointing downwards and twisted inwards Background: Clubfoot

  3. Most popularly uses a combination of casts and braces • $200 - $300 / brace • Achieve proper position of foot • dorsiflexion, external rotation, eversion • With correction the child can have a normal quality of life Treatment

  4. Unilateral • Need to assure no rotation of the lower leg • Cost effective materials (TBD with co.) Goal: Brace Redesign

  5. Contacted project mentor @ Children’s: Dr. Moreland • Formulated prototype design • Submitted business proposal to the Enterprize Business Competition • Met this morning with Bob Mawhinney @ Hanger Prosthetics and Orthotics • ….. • (future) • Update the DHF (TBC—this week) Milestone Status
