Georgia Milestones (2) ELA • Close analytic reading to construct meaning, make inferences, draw conclusions, compare and contrast ideas, themes, etc., as well as synthesize ideas and concepts across multiple texts SCIENCE • Will require understanding of core concepts, ideas, and practices to explain scientific phenomena, with the Characteristics of Science/Nature serving as prerequisites MATH • Will require demonstration of conceptual understanding of concepts, procedural skills and fluency, problem solving, modeling, and mathematical reasoning SOCIAL STUDIES • Will require require students to understand how the past influences the present and future, including interconnectedness of culture, geography, economics, government, and civics

Considerations for readiness: • Classroom performance over time – grades matters, as they reflect mastery levels. • Maturity indicators • Attendance • MAP scores – shows comparison of age level peers across the country; norm referenced • Milestones scores – shows absolute achievement against Georgia standards • GMAS does not indicate readiness without supporting measures. 6th Grade Readiness 5th Grade is, by law, a “Benchmark Year”
