  2. Weebly Through the first stages of production I created myself a weebly account which allowed me to form a blog consisting of my research a development through the creation of my 2 minute film. Within my weebly blog I created pages for the following titles • RESEARCH SECTION: Media Language: Mise-en-scene/Cinematography/Sound/EditingInstitution GenreRepresentationAudience Ideology Narrative • DEVELOPMENT: Script Synopsis Treatment Storyboard Location Shots Test Shot Log Line • PRODCTION: 2 Minute film Continuity Task- Storyboard - Script - Shot Plan

  3. Extending weebly • RESEARCH: For the research section of my blog, I made 7 pages for my MIGRAIN section. Then within the media language page, connected another 4 pages for the following; mise-en scene, cinematography, sound and editing. • Within each of the pages, I described and explained the media language and terminology • DEVELOPMENT: For this section of my blog, I made another 7 pages for the development of my 2 minute introduction. The 7 pages consisted of a: Synopsis/Treatment/Script/Storyboard/Location shots/Test shots/Tag line • I then slowly over time, begun adding things to each page and section of my blog.

  4. Continuity task After creating my blog and doing the research section I moved on to the continuity task which was a small section to allow us to understand how the camera works and how to film. Before going out to film, we created a script and shot plans for the short film. After being completely happy with the final idea, we went out for our first shooting of the continuity task however, it didn’t all quite work out as planned. • Firstly we discovered that we hadn’t given ourselves enough time for the filming process which meant that we would have to take the filming into another day. This wasn’t possible as the weather would have been different and our actors would have been wearing different clothing. So we noted down that we should give ourselves at least an hour to shoot the whole thing. • Secondly we were shooting outside and being unaware of camera settings the student who had used the camera before us had put it on a setting for their location and we were unaware of this therefore shot in the wrong camera setting for our location. This meant that our shots came out far to bright and didn’t look right. • Thirdly still trying to get comfortable with the camera I wasn’t fully aware of how to focus the camera properly so what I thought was focused of set, when actually coming back to it on the computer, it was all out of focus. • Due to all these problems, it meant that we had to go reshoot the film. However again we ran out of time and due to it snowing we couldn’t film over 2 days. • So finally we came to the conclusion to just film it inside and on a tripod. We managed to get the focus perfect and film in enough time so that it didn’t run over into another day. We finally edited the film together and noticed that no lines had been broken and that everything was in focus.

  5. What have I learned? Through the whole process of media blogs and the production of film I have learned a huge amount of things. Starting with the research section, I learnt about media itself and the language and terminology within media. I learnt just how important it is to understand each of the sections in order to officially understand about the actual filming stages. Then looking through the development stages I learned that it takes a large about of time and effort to produce a film. You need to have a huge set up before actually filming your film. • SCRIPT: I learned that you must always indent it and keep it in a particular font. The reason for this is in order for it to be easily understood by camera staff and most importantly the actors. I understand not that a script for camera if completely different to a script for drama. • SYNOPSIS: I understand that a synopsis is a 500 word overview about what is going to appear within the film and that its just a rough outline for the creative team involved (cinematographer/editor/director) • TREATMENT: I learned that with the treatment come slightly more time, this needs to be a deeper overview of exactly step by step what is going on within your film. It is important that this is as detailed as possible for the creative team producing and filming the final piece. • TAG LINE: The tag line is a small 25 word sentence which invites the audience in to understand a glimpse of what the film will be about.

  6. More about what I have learned… • SHOTPLAN: A shot plan is extremely important for the cinematographer because it allows them to understand where you want the camera to be positioned. Otherwise they may read it slightly differently off the treatment and see it slightly differently in their head meaning the final piece wont be how you would have wished it to be. • EDITING: Throughout the editing stage I found it slightly difficult to start but once understand the editing software of final cut, I realised it was possible to edit a film together in just one lesson. • FINAL CUT: We uploaded our shots onto the editing software- final cut and placed each shot where we wanted them to be in order for the film to run as planned. Making sure we kept rendering the shots at the end we produced the 2 minute film introduction exactly how originally planned.
