Mission Statement • “- To compete in the FIRST robotics program as a well-rounded, competent team that can serve as an example and inspiration • - Professional development of skills in engineering, machining, computer aided drafting (Inventor), business management, computer programming, advertising and promotion, computer animation, logic, and time management • -Spread the Message of FIRST” (FRC 16 2010 Business Plan, pg 3)
What Is Your Team’s: Long and Short Term Goal? Ex. Long Term: Have a strong presence in the community Run a FLL Regional each year Consistently raise $40,000 Ex. Short Term: Submit Chairman’s Raise $10,000 for 2011 regionals Create a business plan
Yearly Team Goals • Year 1 – Develop your team brand, team handbook, find 3 major sponsors, form a parent group • Year 2- Work on community outreach, sustainability (monetary & recruitment), business plan • Year 3- Maintaining the team, apprentice/feeder program, maintain mentor/sponsor relations
Competition Analysis • Do Your Research! • Find out who’s won in your state and what they’ve done • Ask strong teams how they’re structured • Find out what the strong MN teams do • Bring new ideas into your team • Take what will work for you and leave the rest • Events should be FUN • Make sure you don’t focus so much on winning you forget what FIRST is actually about
Financial Plan • How will your team be sustainable? • Students and Mentors • Financially • Find multiple sponsors who give $2-3,000 a year • Create fundraising opportunities for the students • Create a document that details the teams financial needs • Plan for future years • Contingency Plans! • What if plan for bad situations (ex. loss of sponsor)
