  1. beliefs behaviours self needs triangle of emotions:‘treatment’ behavioural experiments challenge & help us update outdated toxic emotional beliefs and the now dysfunctional behaviours – like avoidance - associated with these beliefs therapeutic relationships – individual & group – can give experiences of being accepted & valued even when one is very honest, open & allows one’s inner self to be ‘seen’; trying new behaviours, getting feedback, & learning from others are also potentially very valuable the ‘respected figures’ & ‘80th birthday’ exercises, and other sources of ‘inspiration’ highlight ways of acting that we aspire to; the aim then is to ‘feel the fear and do it anyway’ – the coping survey form & determination record can help focus these efforts better understanding, emotional processing of key memories encapsulating outdated toxic meanings, forms of dialogue work for unfinished business & internal conflicts, body focusing to transform maladaptive held emotional beliefs, & developing inner compassion & self-regulation all help greatly wellbeing-orientated activities are crucially important – for example our relationship network, job, interests, exercise, relaxation, substance abuse and diet provide key challenges that then change our sense of self-esteem, resilience and enjoyment of being alive working in good therapeutic relationships and emotional processing of maladaptive learned emotional beliefs often helps us contact under-lying primary adaptive emotions which can energize us and help us move forward again
