Math Faculty Admission Requirements You need  6 Grade 12 courses: •  4 U courses that must include any 4U English, AdvancedFunctions, Calculus and Vectors •  2 others (U or M – may be specified or recommended for some programs such as Software Engineering) • Grade 12 Introduction to Computer Studies is encouraged for students interested in Computer Science • Euclid Contest is highly recommended

Math Faculty Program Targets The number admitted varies by program: Computer Science - 345 Computer Science / Business (Double Degree) - 50 Computing and Financial Management - 40 Software Engineering - 125 Math / Business (Single Degree) - 60 Math / Business (Double Degree) - 65 Math / CPA - 65 Financial Analysis and Risk Management - 125 Honours Mathematics - 470 + Math ELAS (English Language) - 220 ___________________________________________ Total = 1565 (from ~ 15,000 applications)

  9. What marks are required? Depends on program and number of applications Based on 2015: • Double Degree, Accounting & CS – low 90’s • Other programs – high 80’s • Co-op generally higher than Regular BUT…

  10. Admission Depends on More Than Marks!!! Admission Information Form (AIF) • Academic History • Extra-curricular Activities (school and community activities, athletics, drama, music, math and computer science activities, etc.) • Part-time job • Teacher Reference • Fill in on-line forms at: http://www.findoutmore.uwaterloo.ca/thenextstep/applicants/ • Posted deadline was March 18, however, you still have another week to submit your AIF! • The AIF is required for ALL programs

Admission Decisions • Based on the Admission Average and the AIF Score • Admission Average - add marks for the required courses (2 Math, Eng) plus highest U course plus highest two other U/M courses and divide by 6 • Although the AIF is important, grades form the most important part of any admission decision • For more information on admissions visit: https://uwaterloo.ca/math/future-undergraduates/admissions • Euclid Contest score may make a difference for certain high demand programs

  12. What if I don’t get admitted to my first choice program? In the past we have made alternate offers: CS/Business Double Degree  CS FARM  Math/Business Math/Business  Honours Math Co-op  Regular

  13. When will I find out? Some early offers have already gone out (<20%) The majority will go out in mid May based on second semester mid-term grades Remember – you do not have to commit (confirm) until June 1st!!!

FACULTY of MATHEMATICSUniversity of Waterloo • In the first term (1A) all students take: • Calculus • Classical Algebra • Computer Science • + Two non-Math electives (free choice for many students; prescribed courses for some programs such as Business, Accounting, Computing and Financial Management, Mathematical Physics, Software Engineering) • Students must satisfy a communications requirement by completing 2 communications courses (Writing, Speaking and/or Professional)

Math in Europe • Unique opportunity to live in Europe for 90 days: - One month in Rome (Italy) and two months in Montpellier (France). • Take three University of Waterloo Mathematics courses: - Taught by UW Mathematics Professors in English in Europe. • Costs: (1) Fee for three University of Waterloo courses (the amount is identical to that paid if you took the same courses in Waterloo) (2) About $1,000 to $1,500 for airfare (3) €4100 (about $6,000) Program Fee. This fee includes - Accommodation in Rome and Montpellier - All organized trips - Breakfast and four weekly dinners in Montpellier - One French course as an elective (Pass/Fail credit) • Participation in this program fulfills the International Experience component of the Global Experience Certificate : great asset to be added to your resume. • For information, ask Francine Vinette at the Waterloo International booth in the hall, or check uwaterloo.ca/math/current-undergraduates/math-europe-program

Based on Fall 2015 with a full course load: Domestic Tuition Fees - 2 terms or 8 months Math, Business, Accounting & FARM programs • Mathematics & Math / Business (Single Degree) $6,234 (Regular) $7,550 (Co-op) • Math / Business (Double Degree) (Co-op only) $9,518 • Math / CPA (Co-op only after 1st year) $7,550 (significant increase after first year) • Financial Analysis and Risk Management $9,184 (Regular) $10,500 (Co-op) • Math / ELAS (English Language for Academic Studies) $5,410 (Regular only)

Based on Fall 2015 with a full course load: Domestic Tuition Fees - 2 terms or 8 months CS, CFM & SE programs • Computing and Financial Management (Co-op only) $7,550 (significant increase after first year) • Computer Science $12,354 (Regular) $13,670 (Co-op) • CS / Business (Double Degree) (Co-op only) $13,670 • Software Engineering (Co-op only) $14,726

Based on Fall 2015 with a full course load: International Tuition Fees - 2 terms or 8 months • All programs – except CFM, SE and Math / ELAS $24,662 (Regular) $25,978 (Co-op) • Computing and Financial Management $24,096 (Co-op only) • Software Engineering $35,086 (Co-op only) • Math / ELAS (English Language for Academic Studies) $16,840 (Regular only)

  20. What Will It Cost? Based on Fall 2015 values: Residence Fees - 2 terms or 8 months • Depends on residence and meal plan • Residence costs range from $5,350 - $7,115 • Some residences have a required meal plan Costs for 8 months range from: $4,250 - $5,050 • Other residences have cooking facilities Books • About $2,000 for 2 terms

Admission ScholarshipsFaculty of Mathematics Faculty of Mathematics Scholarship application deadline was February 8, 2016 Recipients will be notified by early April Math Entrance Scholarships Based on admission average, AIF and Euclid Score • No application necessary for these scholarships • Values range from $5,000 - $10,000 over 4 years • Others range from $1,000 - $3,000 for one year

Euclid Contest • Written on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 • Not required for admission BUT a strong performance could help you earn a place in the Faculty of Mathematics • Used in making Math Entrance Scholarships decisions • Visit: cemc.uwaterloo.ca and courseware.cemc.uwaterloo.ca for past contests and solutions as well as additional online problems • Attend the Euclid Workshop at 3 pm in M3 1006
