Recycling water and water conservation will be critical component of our daily lives in the coming millennium” – India Vision 2020 • Per capita consumption • Current India target 50 l/d; Holland – 125 l/d • Reality – varies from 12 to 400 l/day • Widely skewed access and quality of water • Water can be serious obstacle in realising growth targets and long term sustaininbility

  6. INDO-DUTCH WATER SECTOR MEET Wassenaar/Den Haag, 6-7 February 2007 • Water in 11th five year plan – 2008 to 2011 • A faster and more inclusive growth • Increasing role of Private Sector in development • Linking water development with massive rehabilitation of agriculture and more equitable access • Very ambitious targets requiring massive mobilization of financial, institutional, technical and civic resources • Doubling irrigation area in 5 years • Clean drinking water for all by 2009 • Treat all urban water (to rivers) by 2011 • Great emphasis on sanitation and waste management
