  1. Abortion The Silent Scream By: Asia Parker and Keiara Stevenson

  2. What is Abortion? 1.Also called voluntary abortion.the removal of an embryo or fetus from the uterus in order to end a pregnancy (dictionary.com). 2.any of various surgical methods for terminating a pregnancy, esp. during the first six months (dictionary.com)

  3. Abortion is a Killer!!! This year abortion has caused 46 million deaths. If we took a minute of silence in memory of each life that has been taken, there would be 2,760 minutes of silence. The world hasn’t been this quiet since the beginning of time. Maybe then, we could hear the silent scream (www.abortions.org).

  4. Our Thesis The United States practices justice and abortion is unjust. Abortion should be illegalized in the United States, because it is unethical and unconstitutional. Simply put, it is murder.

  5. Types and Methods The three most common ways to abort are: • By the use of instruments • Killing the fetus by administering toxic medication • Surgically removing the baby from the womb (lifesitenews.com)

  6. Different Types of Abortion Abortion by medication or toxins Abortion by the use of instruments Abortion by surgery

  7. Abortion by the use of instruments Surgically implies the use of surgical instruments to remove the unborn child or instillations to kill the fetus while still in the uterus. Abortion, like any surgical procedure, carries a number of health risks which are increasingly more serious with the advancement of the pregnancy. (telerama.com)

  8. Medically implies the administration of drugs to the pregnant woman to end the pregnancy. (ezinearticles.com) Abortion by Medication or Toxins The abortion pill known as RU-486

  9. Ways of avoiding unwanted pregnancy • ABSTINENCE • Use of condoms or other contraceptives (birth control) • The “morning after pill” also known as ECP (infoplease.com)

  10. Ways of Avoiding Pregnancy The (ECP) Morning After Pill Condoms Other contraceptives

  11. The History • Abortion has always been controversial. • Women were aborting as far back as the middle ages. (infoplease.com)

  12. History Cont’d • Abortion was first accepted in Europe • In the late 19th century views changed. • Over 40 laws were enacted between 1860 and 1880. • 1869 = Catholic Church prohibited Abortion. • Attitudes are generally open in the 20th century. (infoplease.com)

  13. Roe vs. Wade • 1973 • Stated: a Texas anti-abortion statue was unconstitutional and allowed abortions within the first six months of pregnancy. (lawenactment.org)

  14. Partial Birth Abortion

  15. Estimates(Dr.Willke’s Abortion Questions and Answers) • African Americans and Abortion. • Common in urban areas. • Abortions in China. • Women and Abortions in China.

  16. Statistics • 52% of the abortions in America are performed on women under 25. • Black women are 3 times as likely as white women to get an abortion • 64.4% of abortions are performed on never-married women. • An estimated 40% of women have at least 1 abortion by the age of 45. • About 14% of all abortions in the United States are paid for with public funds.

  17. Shattering the Myths(There is too much info on the slide) • About 90% of pro-choice leaders feel that abortion should be legal because it is a woman's right. They reason that the baby is not yet a human, the woman can’t afford the child, her life is in danger, or she could’ve been raped. • Here is what Pro-life leaders have to say: • The Fetus inside of the mother is known as the unborn child, not the “unalive” child. The very first heartbeat of the baby is recorded the 23rd day after it’s Conceived. This means that when the abortion is performed the child is indeed a human. • 51% of women who have abortions receive an income between 30 and $60 thousand • 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest • 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child. • and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient). (abortions.com)

  18. Life(there is too much info on the second bullet point) • What is life? • the condition that distinguishes organisms from inorganic objects and dead organisms, being manifested by growth through metabolism, reproduction, and the power of adaptation to environment through changes originating internally. (dictionary.com)

  19. When Does Life Begin?(too much info on bullet points) • Those in favor of abortion argue that a baby isn’t developed until it has been in the womb for three months • Our argument = Sperm has life so does the ovum. When the two join together and become a fertilized ovum, the ovum doesn’t die. The ovum is alive before it is even fertilized (Dr.Willke’s Abortion Question and Answers pg.23)

  20. Is a Fetus a Human?(too much info on bullet point) • YES! • Just like an acorn is an oak tree, a fetus is a human being. If you plant an acorn or any other seed and leave it in the ground, it will grow. Eventually an acorn becomes a full oak tree. Eventually a fetus becomes a breathing and crying baby. (Dr.Willke’s Abortion Question and Answers pg.78)

  21. Why No Laws?(too much info on bullet point) • There are laws to protect children from harm and neglect. Why should laws be different for the womb? • Some argue that a woman owns her body, so it is her right. A woman doesn’t have the right to take away her own life. • If abortion is allowed, why can’t a woman who decides she doesn’t want her 3 year old kill it? Just like this is wrong, so is killing a baby at any age.

  22. What is Murder? Law. the killing of another human being under conditions specifically covered in law. In the U.S., special statutory definitions include murder committed with malice aforethought, characterized by deliberation or premeditation or occurring during the commission of another serious crime, as robbery or arson (first-degree murder), and murder by intent but without deliberation or premeditation (second-degree murder). Murder She Wrote(dictionary.com)

  23. The Holy Bible says In one of the ten commandments: Thou shall not kill. Abortion is viewed as wrong not only in Christianity, but also Hinduism, Islam, and Judaism. Abortion is Against Religious Beliefs

  24. Hippocratic Oath • The ethical foundation and guiding light for medical practice • Part of the oath in its classic form asks doctors to vow that they “ will not give to a woman any kind of strange material to produce abortion, and will maintain respect for human life from the moment of contraception. (embryousa.org)

  25. Psychological Effects • The woman as well as a man may feel regret, confusion, and guilt • When a person has too much power, they tend to crack under pressure. Giving the woman the right to abort is too much pressure (cirtl.org)

  26. Things To Consider Before Abortion Another thing to think about the baby that you killed could be the one to stop wars or the one to cure cancer it also could be the to cure AIDS HIV many of the things that are effecting our world today

  27. How does the baby react? The unborn child is very alive prior to the abortion procedure, and there is strong evidence that the unborn child can feel pain as early as twelve weeks. The abortion procedure is thought to be painful for the unborn child, as no anesthesia is administered to the fetus. In the case of a surgical abortion, anesthetic is usually administered to the pregnant woman. (yahoo.abortioninfo.com)

  28. After eight weeks of the mothers pregnancy, the baby has developed all of it's organs, therefore the child can feel everything that the so-called "doctor" does to it! Now that you know the baby feels pain…………. Girls: Imagine that you are pregnant some years in the future. Boys: Imagine that your wife or girlfriend is pregnant some years in the future. You decide to go ahead and have an abortion…… The doctor asks you if you would like to see your baby, after he or she has been removed. You reply yes Then the doctor brings you this……………………………….

  29. Your baby after abortion!!

  30. Physical Effects • There are a wide range of complications that can result from abortions, such as, future miscarriages, infertility and tubal pregnancies, and even breast cancer. (cirtl.org)

  31. Conclusion Abortion is a very selfish act. Babies do not ask to be brought upon this earth. This is a decision made by the mother and father when they engage in sexual activity. Pregnancy is always a possible consequence of having sex. And abortion should not serve as a quick fix when one accidentally gets pregnant.
