Welcome to 4th Grade at Desert Heights Charter School - Open House Information

Join us for an exciting 4th Grade Open House on July 30, 2011, at Desert Heights Charter School! Meet our dedicated 4th Grade Team: Ms. Bethany Jarrell, Mrs. Nicole Parker, and Ms. Jennifer Scruggs. This year, we emphasize student success through responsibility, focus, and hard work. Homework will be approximately 40 minutes each night. Our curriculum includes Saxon Math, Imagine It! for Language Arts, and Science/Social Studies. Let’s make this a fabulous year filled with learning and growth! Contact your student's teacher with any questions.

  4. Homework Policy Expectation: 40 Minutes Per Night Please provide your student with a quiet, consistent area for homework. This will help with his/her success and attitude for homework. **If homework is taking much longer than this, please contact your child’s teacher ASAP to discuss and make alternate arrangements. Language Arts: Imagine It! Skills Practice Workbook – approx 2 pages Math: Saxon Math – approx 20-30 problems per night Science/Social Studies: Study for tests & possible workbook pages Spelling: Test on Friday

Daily Schedule • 8:00 - 8:15 DOL/morning procedures • 8:15 - 8:45 AR/ Reading intervention • 8:45 - 9:15 Math intervention • 9:15 - 10:15 Math • 10:15 - 11:00 Language Arts (Reading) • 11:00 - 11:40 Specials • 11:40 - 12:30 Language Arts (Grammar, Writing) • 12:30 - 1:30 Lunch/Recess • 1:30 - 2:35 Science/Social Studies • 2:35 - 2:50 Dismissal procedures

Reading • Grammar lesson every day • New story each week – read twice with discussion/activities • Daily Homework from Skills Practice Workbook • Reading Comprehension and Writing test once per week • Includes new vocabulary and grammar from the week • Spelling test each week • Website suggestion: www.spellingcity.com
