Plot Summary • Late one night, Carton and Stryver work in Stryver’s chambers. Stryver announces that he intends to marry Lucie, in an arrogant way. Carton drinks a bunch at the news, assuring Stryver that his words have not upset him. Stryver implies that himself find “some respectable woman with a little property,” and marry her, or he will end up poor and sick.
