Background • The content of the article is based on project development experience in Balkan countries. • Currently most of the projects being implemented in this region are focused on infrastructure. • There are only a small number of projects being oriented towards culture and cultural heritage, however most of these are focused on renovation and equipment purchase.

  3. How do I understand all this!

Economic development What is it all about? • Short: » 4 P«   • Place: region, city, community, site • People: citizens, enterpreneurs, tourists, investors, students, • Perspectives : quality of life, growth, social inclussion, experinece, • Productivity: comapny, innovation, investment, competition.

  5. Recently value comes from… Design Marketing Branding Intellectual property Image Trust Health Environmental friendly Ethics Flexibility Quality Loyalty Intengible NOW Creativness Distribution BEFORE Tengible Production Production RDT

  8. Where do opportunities comes from?

Content not containers! • Funds offer a unique opportunity for the culture and cultural heritage a momentum in delivering substance for innovation and growth. • Even more all these initiatives offer a possibility for cultural and cultural heritage to lead content not being a useful tool but being core leverage in developing new services and products.

  10. Project developers do not get it! • Project developers from the cultural side of the coin are as responsible as those notcoming from the cultural milieu. • Project developers from the cultural milieu are too narrowly focused on cultural value and protecting its essence. • Projectdevelopers not fromculturalmilieu lack in knowledge and lack in feeling culture as aforinnovationanddevelopment.

  11. Project developers do not get it! • Both are an obstacle for the culture and heritage to gain more funding and became a key fundament of the creativeness. • Using culture and cultural heritage for “attractivity” is one but being able to build on culture this is totally something different.

  12. Opportunity! Culture offers a unique source for creation and creative economies. To attract more resources for culture we need to focus ourprojects to Place, People and build their Productivityand Perspectives.

  13. Opportunity! Projects need to connect culture and heritage with services and products development, business knowledge, cooperation skills, project management, branding, marketing, industrial and intellectual property protection…. to be successful and being able to present growth.

  14. What do we need to do?

  15. Project preparation process takes time!

  16. Quality of the projects is a key! • Relevance • Feasibility • Sustainability

  17. Partnership! Projects need more stakeholders and more open discussion to understand and learn how to protect and how to use to build services and products rather than buildings.
