Background • EU Structural Funds – more local influence • Indicative allocation of £165 million for SE LEP area 2014 -20 • The money will be spend according to the SELEP European Structural and Investment Fund Strategy (ESIF) • £82.5 European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)of which £16.5 million to be spend on Low Carbon • £82.5 European Social Fund (ESF)of which £16.5 million to be spend on Social Inclusion • Alignment with Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) which is also in the process of being written • The Focus is on Jobs and Growth!

Structure of the EU Strategy • Evidence base • SWOT • Discussion of work needed to tackle market failures • Strategic Economic Plan (SEP) priorities • Range of activities related to EU funding objectives • Alignment with other EU funds • Collaboration with other LEPs • Financial instruments and Opt-ins • Sustainable development and equality • How we will deliver

Priorities for the SIF • Accelerating innovation, productivity and enterprise growth; and, • Providing skills for a globally competitive economy • Running through the programme will be a commitment to sustainable development and social inclusion • These will be supported by activities designed to reduce carbon emissions and develop the low carbon economy; and to promote social inclusion • All towards Jobs and Growth!

How to contribute • Check that the hooks are there for your idea • Feed back your views • Encourage partners to attend the local information events • Work on your project idea – be ambitious (but also realistic!) • Check it aligns to the European Strategy SIF and your chapter of the Strategic Economic Plan • Who will your partners be? • Make sure you have some ideas about match funding

How to participate Start working up your project ideas now Think of a wide inclusive partnership Consider sources of match funding – you will need 50% Calls for applications will be initiated by SELEP from the autumn 2014 Local area project board will approve strategic fit of your project outline before full project development Local area government delivery teams will advise on full project development

  8. What’s happening? • 16 October – 31 January 14 • Working with BIS local teams and Government departments on draft SIF content • With Opt-ins agencies for match funding • Developing the Full SIF document • Draft SEP under development including local chapters and the “wrap around” chapter • Stakeholder views compiled and integrated • Approval expected by Summer 2014!
