  2. Saturnalia Roman celebration of the son god along with Saturn, the god of agriculture. Seven day festival beginning around December 17. Decorated garlands and wreaths. Lavish feasts and exchanging of gifts. Temples open to the public, the poor and the homeless. Rules set aside, schools closed, slaves could meet their masters on equal terms. Kindness promoted, war and the punishment of criminals halted.
