Key Focus Areas – Community Goals EDUCATION Youth achieve academic goals and demonstrate life skills necessary to become positive, contributing members of the community HEALTH Children and adults are physically, mentally and emotionally healthy INCOME Families and individuals are financially stable WHY EDUCATION, INCOME AND HEALTH? United Way is working to advance the common good by focusing on these building blocks for a good life - a quality EDUCATION that leads to a stable job, enough INCOME to support a family through retirement, and good HEALTH. Mobilizing Communities – NEW ROLE • United Way is taking a new step forward by getting at the root-causes of community needs in order to create lasting changes • It is a new role that proactively works on addressing and solving community problems United Way of Washington County, October 21, 2013

Mobilizing Communities – RESULTS TO DATE • In 2012, United Way piloted Mobilized Hartford, where business leaders met with community stakeholders to identify greatest needs • Two priorities were identified: 1st - to address at-risk youth and 2nd - to enhance the presence of social services in Hartford for those individuals who lack transportation • A New Middle School Program Started at Boys & Girls Club: • United Way Resource Center Opened in May 2013: Centrally located in Hartford that is available to nonprofits to utilize at no charge October 21, 2013

Mobilizing Communities – RESULTS TO DATE • Currently, United Way is developing a county-wide root cause initiative • Areas that the community ranked as top needs: • Employment Financial Resources Health Services • Substance Abuse Transportation Youth Development • TOP RANKED: EMPLOYMENT • Lower income working families and individuals achieve and retain life-sustaining employment.
