  1. WP4 Meeting Legnaro, 23/5 2012 WP4 Beta Beams: Final phase Elena Wildner, CERN

  2. What we still have to do • EUROnu report requirements for each collaborator • Milestones • Deliverables • Please check carefully in the contract • Check that all points are treated • Fully, partly or not at all: please explain • 2. WP4 has to send a 5 page summary of the above 1 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  3. A special issue in PRSTB (All EUROnu) http://prst-ab.aps.org/speced/EURONU Please read ! 2 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  4. Templates Concerning templates There are some editorial guidelines for authors https://authors.aps.org/tips.html For latex users templates are available for download at https://authors.aps.org/revtex4/ Revtex is installed on CERN lxplus. Elena will discuss with F. Zimmerman if necessary The editing board of PRSTB can be contacted 3 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  5. CPV and nFlux: Fréjus & Canfranc I assume one consistent contribution from each collaborator 4 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  6. Report: What are we aiming at The main topic of EUROnu: 8B and 8Li production & acceleration Great results for collection and x-sections!!! Problem1: not possible to produce in production Ring Problem2: not possible to accelerate needed flux The proposal overlooked the need of 5 x low-Q flux Solutions were: Redirect to 6He and 18Ne for production & accelerators(to have a working) baseline Great progress for 18Ne production Great progress on stability calculations 5 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  7. Layout of main article in PRSTB All tasks give a complete documentation of work done inone self-contained chapter in the final report per task. Elena W. makes the introduction and the general aspects, we have to see how the physics and our optimizations have to be treated in the EUROnu report. We should describe where the “knobs” for physics are. List of tasks not performed for a real evaluation (Decay ring absorber systems, vacuum, collimation, shielding in all machines…) Elena W. needs all costing issues and if necessary a breakdown structure This concerns essentially the Decay Ring, the RCS, the source, the collection device and the production infrastructure. This is urgent information to be able to finalize the costing We should try to make a coherent design report, even if some parts of FP6 design study will remain, however updated. 6 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  8. Planning of report Give the number and the contents of your special articles (imminent) Template available (LaTeX) Send a draft of the main article 29/6 (before the Paris meeting 12-14 of July) Prepare the special papers for 15/8 7 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  9. Report (from last meeting) • Introduction • Aim and background (physics?) • General Idea (CERN site, advantages, consequences and drawbacks) • Baselines • Low- Q • High-Q 8 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  10. Report, From last meeting, decided? • Description • Source • Prod Ring, 8B&8Li, Elena B, Semen, Legnaro • 18Ne, Thierry S., Tania • RFQs, Bechthold, Vretenar • Linac, Bechholt, Vretenar • RCS, Elena W • PS, Elena B • SPS, Christian? • Decay Ring, Antoine Christian, Grame • Layout, Elena, John O., Antoine K. • Costing, Elena • Possibilities for Beta Beam implementation, John O. 9 WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  11. Costing and Safety Beta Beams • Work Breakdown Structure set up • Costing tool (CERN) is used • I need help for explicitly enter info for the costs • Cost of equipment will be estimated as well as possible • Some equipment need resources for design • We cannot count on much • Layout & civil engineering cost driving • Beta Beam exercise started • I managed to put together a team for the civil engineering • Very shallow work (lack of manpower & Priority) • Extensive list of safety items for beta beams is set up • Elena&Elena have prepared a presentation WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  12. Layout BB (II) Osborne/Kosmicki WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  13. Layout RCS Linac4 and SPL LP Ion Linac RCS PS diameter 233 m RCS Triangle Straight 21 m, r=21m Linac 110 m WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner

  14. IPAC Paper The same Author list as last year, please check! Please give me your contribution before Friday WP4, CERN, April 2012, Elena Wildner
