How to live the Holy Week? • Attend at least one prayer/day. • Bring with you: • Prayer book – notebook – pen – spiritual book/Bible • Write in your prayer book , title of the day • Draw a line under any verse related to today’s topic • During the psalm and long hymns , read in your spiritual book/Bible • Write summary about abouna’s sermon. • During “Thok teti Gom” , lift up your heart and submit your love to Jesus.

  6. Liturgy Palm Sunday procession. Normal liturgy. Special tone. Four gospels.

  7. Public prayer for the Repose of the Dead (Requiem) Prayers for the repose of the dead are forbidden in the Passion Week, so after the liturgy on Palm Sunday, the church performs a public requiem.

The Holy Pascha • 5 morning hours/5 evening hours. • Prophecies and written sermons. • Thok teti Gom x 12 times (Revelation 4,5,7) • Tuesday , 11th hour ( my Good Saviour ) • Friday evening, 1st hour (The Lord is my strength) • Psalm + Gospel ( Coptic / English or Arabic ) • In the evening abouna’s sermon. • End of prayers.

  13. Types of hearts • Satan and the disciples . • The high priests. • Judah • The woman offering the fragrant oil On Jesus’ feet.

  14. The big Thursday • The day when Jesus gave the disciples the Sacrament of the Holy Communion • Remember Judah and Mary. • Judah’s procession.

  15. Before the communion….. but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8 And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (Philippians 2:7-8

  16. Why did Jesus form this sacrament on Thursday? • Since He will die on the cross and leave us, He wanted to unit us in Him forever. Is it real body and blood? • Incarnation : Jesus ( the creator) turned the divine nature to human nature. • The Eucharist sacrament , Jesus (the creator) , turned the bread and wine into divine nature.

Liturgy • No hour prayers with psalms – since we already prayed 3rd 6th and 9th hours of the pascha. • No : Halleluiah this the day , waiting for the resurrection. • No readings :CATHOLIC EPISTLE , THE PRAXIS( as evangelism started after resurrection) • No “Synaxarion” , we are only remembering Jesus during the Holy week. • No PRAYER OF RECONCILIATION • No COMMEMORATION OF THE SAINTS • During the HOLY COMMUNION, no psalm 150 but the 11th hour.

  25. 6th hour = Crucified

  26. They pierced My hands and My feet;Psalms 22:16

  27. They divide My garments among them, And for My clothing they cast lots. Psalm 22:18

  28. Now when the sixth hour had come, there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour. Mark 15:33

  29. 9th hour • So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit. John 19:30

  30. 11th hour But one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately blood and water came out. John 19:34

  31. When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, 60 and laid it in his new tomb which he had hewn out of the rock; and he rolled a large stone against the door of the tomb, and departed. 12th hour

  32. Apocalypses night • "Do not weep. Behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the scroll and to loose its seven seals."

  33. It is the night , when we cross from death to life. • All hymns , with tones sad/joyful. • All praises is about crossing from distress to joy.

  34. Many praises from OT and NT • Many joyful processions.

  35. We read St. John’s revelation

  36. We read about our heavenly Jerusalem, and how our eternity will be.

  37. "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.

  38. "Surely I am coming quickly." Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus!
