(1945-1953) While running for president for his second term he was expected to lose the newspaper printed the wrong winner on the headlines. What- served as president. When- Served from (1945-1953) Where- The United States Why- He passed the Fair Deal program which He used executive orders to end racial discrimination in the armed forces and created loyalty checks that dismissed thousands of communist supporters from office

  2. Doris Day Who- American singer and actor. What- An outspoken animal activist. When- 1924- present Where-San Francisco Why- Her love for the animals.

  3. Red China • Who- a communist nation that covers a vast territory in eastern Asia. • What- A singled governed country controlled by communism lead by communism. • When-For more than 6,000 years, China's political system was based on hereditary monarchies. • Where- China • Why- The government has always taken control of its’ people so they use communism to stay on top of them.

  4. Johnnie Ray • Who- An American singer, song writer and pianist. • What- He created music known as “Rock n Roll” • When- January 10, 1927 – February 24, 1990. • Where- Dallas, Polk Country. • Why-A famous song writer, singer, and among the first to perform rock & roll.

  5. South Pacific • What- A 1949 musical written about world war 2. • When-1949 • Where-Majestic Theatre • Why- This is in the song because throughout the play it shows racial injustice and takes place in WWII

Walter Winchell • Who- was an American newspaper and radio commentator. • What- Once lived in fear of being killed from gang members he lived around. • When- 1920 -1960 50 million people read what he wrote every day. 1948- had the most popular radio show. • Where- California • Why-After World War II, Winchell began to denounce communism as the main threat facing America. He spoke his mind on the radio against communism.

  7. Joe Dimaggio • Who- A Yankees baseball player. • What- Has the major league baseball record with atleast one hit in 56 games. • When- 1935-1948 when he played MLB. • Where- New York • Why- He was an idol for all ages to look up to had the most famous love life with Marilyn Monroe.

  8. Joe McCarthy • At the age of 30, Joe was the youngest circuit judge ever in Wisconsin. After WWII, he was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in the Marines. He was also the youngest member of the Senate at age 38 in 1946. One of his most significant acts was when he made accusations of communist influence on the government. He was a very famous political figure.

  9. Richard Nixon • Nixon was the 37th president of the United States, a United States Senator, and Vice President to Eisenhower. He made diplomatic relations with China and ended our involvement in the Vietnam War. Nixon really helped the U.S. make better foreign relations.

  10. Studebaker • Studebaker was an independent car company through 1945 to 1966. In 1948, they ranked 10th in the industry. They made the 2nd electric car and produced military vehicles and equipment for every conflict since the Civil War. Without this equipment, it probably would have decreased our chances of winning the wars we did.

  11. Television • Through 1872 to 1877, photographs could be viewed by stroboscopic discs. Thomas Edison advanced Technology further by creating the motion picture camera in 1888. Finally in 1936, the first broadcast was available in London. And in 1946, The Blue Network, part of NBC, became ABC Network. Television entertained many and brought families together.

  12. North and South Korea • The war between North and South Korea began on June 25, 1950. The United States and other United Nations’ helped South Korea to contain the communist North. Because of this conflict, the Cold War became increasingly competitive and worse. At the end of the Korean War on July 1953, The Korean Demilitarized Zone established the same separation of North and South Korea on the 38th Parallel.

  13. Marilyn Monroe • Marilyn was born on June 1 1926 in Las Angeles, California. She was famously known as an actress and singer. Some well known movies she acted in are “Some Like It Hot”, “Let’s Make It Hot”, “The Seven Year Itch”, and “Raging Bull”. “Niagara” and “Gentlemen Prefer Blondes” launched her as a sex symbol superstar. Unfortunately, she died on August 5, 1962, she passed away from a drug overdose.
