  4. THAT’S CORRECT! Appetizers/Hors d’oeuvres • Food items served before the main course of a meal • Small portions of food served to stimulate your appetite • Often times are “one bite” • May be served at the table or before sitting down to eat • AKA starters, snacks or as a “light meal”

  5. Did You Know... • ... that Appetizers or Hors d'œuvre are food items served before the main courses of a meal? • … that if there is an extended period between when guests arrive and when the meal is served (for example during a cocktail hour), these might also serve the purpose of sustaining guests during the wait • …that appetizers are sometimes served with no meal afterward and this is the case with many reception and cocktail party events? • … that appetizers may be served at the table, as a part of the sit-down meal, or they may be served before sitting at the table? • … that appetizers prior to a meal are either stationary or passed; with stationary appetizers are also referred to as "table appetizers" and passed appetizers are also referred to as "butler-style" or "butlered" appetizers. • … that though any food served prior to the main course is technically an appetizers, the phrase is generally limited to individual items, not crudités, cheese or fruit? • …that if there is an extended period between when guests arrive and when the meal is served), these might also serve the purpose of sustaining guests during the wait • ...that Appetizers are sometimes served with no meal afterward and this is the case with many reception and cocktail party events?

  6. *Appetizers* • Appetizers = Small portions of food meant to stimulate the appetite • Hot Appetizers = Chicken wings, Swedish meatballs, potato skins, mozzarella sticks • Cold Appetizers = Cheese tray, Veggie tray, Bruschetta, Hummus
