Committees’ Decisions Summary Contact: Ken Shaffer, FGDC OS, kmshaffer@fgdc.gov Read ahead: none • Steering Committee – 9/20/12 • The SC approved the Geospatial Platform multi-agency investment contributions through FY 2016. • The SC also approved the Geospatial Platform governance structure, as laid out in the Business Plan. • Coordination Group • none • Executive Committee Meeting – 12/20/12 Meeting • ExCom members are providing their comments to the Secretariat on the FGDC and Commerce responses to the GAO recommendations. • An ExCom member will lead or co-lead the 3 FGDC actions in response to the GAO recommendations. • ExCom is also reviewing and commenting on the NSDI Strategic Plan planning document. • ExCom will be helping develop guidance on issues for the NGAC to consider in 2013.

  22. Federal Metadata Coordinators ISO Implementation Workshop Contact: Jennifer Carlino, FGDC OS, jcarlino@usgs.gov Read ahead: none Workshop will be held April 16-17, 2013 at USGS in Reston, VA. The purpose of the workshop is to help Federal agency metadata coordinators (including data managers, theme leads, among others) get up-to-date on ISO standards, and provide them with a framework for implementing ISO standards in their organizations. ACTION: CG members are asked to identify one or two potential participants from each of their departments/agencies and send those names to Jennifer Carlino by January 31.

GAO Report Update Contact: Ivan DeLoatch, FGDC OS, ideloatch@fgdc.gov Read aheads: none “OMB and Agencies Need to Make Coordination a Priority to Reduce Duplication” GAO issued report GAO-13-94 Nov. 26, 2012 3 Recommendations for FGDC, directed to the Steering Committee DOI as Chair, in coordination with ExCom members have prepared an action plan response to address the recommendations – due this month ExCom members will lead or co-lead the actions FGDC, DOI, DOC, DOT have coordinated their respective responses as some directly relate, e.g. strategic plan development.

GAO Report Update Recommendations to FGDC Steering Committee: • Develop a plan with timeframe to facilitate the implementation of OMB’s portfolio management guidance (goals, performance measures, annual reporting to OMB) • Target Date: FY 2014, Q1 • Responsible Officials: Ivan DeLoatch, FGDC OS; and Adrian Gardner, NASA • Develop and implement guidance and timeframe for identifying planned geospatial investments using the Geospatial Platform • Target Date: FY 2013, Q4 • Responsible Officials: Jerry Johnston, DOI

GAO Report Update Recommendations to FGDC Steering Committee: • Create and update a strategic plan with timeframe and implement the plan within the established time frame • (1) a vision statement for the NSDI • (2) outcome-oriented goals and objectives that address all aspects of the NSDI • (3) a description of how the goals and objectives are to be achieved, including a description of the resources needed to achieve the goals and objectives and how the FGDC is to work with other agencies to achieve them • (4) performance measures for achieving the stated goals • (5) external factors that could affect the achievement of the goals and objectives. • Target Date: FY 2014, Q1 • Responsible Officials: Ivan DeLoatch, FGDC OS; and Daniel Cotter, DHS Will discuss this further in the next presentation session today.
