They actually are just using their nose. • Dogs can smell chemical imbalances that lead to medical problems. • Dogs now can be trained to sense when a seizure is about to happen or diabetic shock right before it even happens.
Sense Diabetic Shock Diabetic Shock is a condition that may happen due to a severe case of hypoglycemia. Early alert canines can be trained to alert someone when their owner is about to go into diabetic shock. They can smell the chemical imbalance before their owner starts to show signs of shock.
Posttraumatic Stress Attacks • Posttraumatic Stress Attack is when people repeatedly relive the ordeal through thoughts and memories of the trauma. These may include flashbacks, hallucinations, and nightmares. • Dogs can be trained to lay on someone that is having an attack and even protect them during an attack.
Seizure Assist Dogs • Seizure response dogs are trained to protect and care for their owner after having a seizure. They are supposed to remove danger away from their owner • Seizure alert dogs are trained to alert when they sense a seizure is about to happen. They help prevent more damage from a seizure by letting their owner get to a safer place before the seizure occurs.
Bomb & Explosive Sniffing Dogs Bomb Sniffing dogs are trained to use their senses (almost always the sense of smell) to detect substances such as explosives. The dogs are able to smell the the chemicals in the bombs then can notify their owners.
