  1. If you’ve experienced a massage before, you are well aware of how relaxing and pleasant it is. In fact, most people get regular massages purely to reduce pain and relieve stress. It’s a treat that many people are all-too-happy to indulge in,unaware of how beneficial it actually is one’s emotional and physical well-being. There are, of course, different types of massages—from gentle Swedish methods to pressure-relieving, deep-tissue treatments. They might not replace modern Western medical treatments completely, but they can certainly help the natural balance of the mind-body relationship if you have them done on a regular basis. Here are several ways a regular massage can reduce pain and improve range of motion overall:

  2. Regular massage help you manage pain better. Your therapist can target specific problem areas—such as stiff muscles or sore spots—in your body. Massaging these areas can improve blood circulation in that area and consequently loosen tense muscles and joints. It is not uncommon for people to get a regular massage in lieu of purchasing over-the-counter pain medication.

  3. All of us, one way or another, are exposed to stressful situations. Sometimes, these situations pile on top of each other, pressuring us so much, it begins to physically show. One of the best stress-management techniques is a regular massage. Stress often happens when feel like you’re handling too many things simultaneously— whether regarding your home, work, social life, or all three. Having a massage once or twice a week makes a huge difference. It forces you to take time off of your busy schedule and participate in a relaxing activity.

  4. Massage therapy works by improving flexibility and motion. When your connective tissues, tendons, joints, muscles, and ligaments are massaged, your range of motion significantly improves. Consequently, your dexterity and flexibility follow suit. Your joints become more fluid, allowing you to move better and lessen your chances of getting injured.

  5. Many people experience neck, back, and muscle pain from different sources. However, one of the main causes of this pain stems from poor posture. In fact, chronic back pain is usually the result of improper posture while sitting and/or standing. Regular massage therapy addresses this problem by helping the body return to its proper alignment. Once the different parts of the body are relaxed, the body is able to return to its default or more natural position—one that is proper and pain-free.

  6. Most people bring their car in for regular maintenance checkups,so why should you not do the same for your body? People often come in to get a massage when there are major issues that need to be addressed. Swelling, limited movement, persistent pain or throbbing, and tense muscles are such examples. Once the issue has been taken care of, they rarely return.

  7. However, a regular massage is still recommended even after the problems have been addressed. Optimal movement and performance are just some of the benefits of a regular massage. It also keeps your joints loose and your muscles elastic, greatly reducing the chances of pulled muscles, strained joints, muscle cramps, and other such injuries. Getting a massage, overall, helps you address current physical issues and prevents them from happening again and further worsening. So when you want to reduce pain and improve range of motion naturally, a massage is undeniably the best treatment you can get.
